พันธุ์ไม้มงคลพระราชทานประจำจังหวัด เป็นพันธุ์ไม้ที่ สมเด็จพระนางเจ้าสิริกิติ์ พระบรมราชินีนาถ ได้พระราชทานให้กับ ผู้ว่าราชการจังหวัด ของแต่ละจังหวัด
เพื่อให้นำไปปลูกเป็นสิริมงคลแก่จังหวัด และเป็นการรณรงค์ให้ประชาชนปลูกต้นไม้ในโครงการปลูกป่าถาวรเฉลิมพระเกียรติ เนื่องในวโรกาสที่พระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัว ทรงครองสิริราชสมบัติครบ 50 ปี

กระทรวงเกษตรและสหกรณ์ ได้จัดทำโครงการปลูกป่าถาวรเฉลิมพระเกียรติพระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัว เนื่องในวโรกาสทรงครองราชย์ ปีที่ 50 และได้จัดงาน วันรณรงค์โครงการปลูกป่าถาวรเฉลิมพระเกียรติฯ เมื่อวันที่ 9 พฤษภาคม 2537 ณ ศูนย์การประชุมแห่งชาติสิริกิติ์

โดยจังหวัดอุดรธานีได้รับพันธุ์ไม้มงคลพระราชทาน คือ “รัง” และจังหวัดอุดรธานี ได้จัดงานปลูกต้นไม้เป็นปฐมฤกษ์ตามโครงการปลูกป่าถาวรเฉลิมพระเกียรติฯเนื่องในวโรกาสทรงครองราชย์ ปีที่ 50 ในวันที่ 9 มิถุนายน 2537
