ลักษณะทั่วไป     เป็นไม้ยืนต้นผลัดใบสูง 15–20 เมตร 

เปลือกต้นสีเทาแตกเป็นร่องตามความยาวลำต้น ใบเป็นใบเดี่ยวเรียงสลับ แผ่นใบรูปไข่ ปลายใบมน โคนใบหยักเว้า ดอกสีเหลืองออกเป็นช่อ 

กลิ่นหอมอ่อน ออกดอกเดือนมีนาคม-เมษายน 

ผลรูปกระสวย มีปีกยาว 3 ปีก ปีกสั้น 2 ปีก 

ขยายพันธุ์     เพาะเมล็ด สภาพที่เหมาะสม     ดินร่วนปนกรวดและดินทราย 

เป็นไม้กลางแจ้ง ต้องการน้ำและความชื้นปานกลาง 

ถิ่นกำเนิด     ป่าเบญจพรรณแล้ง ป่าแดงทั่วไป ทนแล้ง ทนไฟได้ดีมาก
